I write this reference for Matthew Eales and his organisation of Group Capoeira Brasil -Townsville.
Matthew has been involved with then Active After School Communities (MSC) since its inception in 2005. Matthew has been an exceptional coach delivering high quality programs that cover a range of physical and educational attributes. Some of these include learning of traditional Capoeira martial arts, language and meanings, stories of legend as well as music and song.

Matthew has great experience and the ability to include all children within his activities. I often attend his sessions to see traditionally inactive kids enjoying his sessions as he is extremely motivated himself. Matthew always sets a high standard and carries a positive attitude around the kids which definitely shows in his sessions and by the reaction of the kids.

Some of the benefits of Capoeira are: improvement in self confidence, health & fitness, co-ordination, strength, discipline, and respect to name a few. As discussed earlier the kids also learn about a different culture in the way Matthew delivers his program. Matt also offers the ability for the kids to transition if they really enjoy the session to the local Capoeria Club which he runs. It is also a great way for kids to find new friends and develop their creative side.

After observing Matthew work over a number years within our programme I have no hesitation in recommending him as an outstanding deliverer who will deliver the highest quality service. His sessions are easily one of the best and most liked in our programme. As a professional I have had nothing but cooperation from Matthew and am hopeful he stays with us for the long term.

Capoeira has been coming to our centre for over 12 months now and we can recommend them very highly to other centres. Every week the children get so excited when they come.

The instructors are so professional and so friendly. They walk in every week with smiles on their faces and it really shows that they love what they do. They are truly passionate about Capoeira and getting children moving and involved. They really connect with the children at a one-on-one level, even though they instruct a large group.

Through Capoeira, both the children, and our educators, are increasing their co-ordination, strength, balance, rhythm and flexibility while having lots of fun. You can see the joy on their faces when they are participating. I love that the children are exposed to a different instrument each week and are learning the Portuguese language.

I have had the pleasure of Knowing Matthew Eales over the last seven years. He has been a big part of our after school care here at the Marian Catholic School. We asked Matthew who coaches Capoeira seven years ago to come and share his skills and knowledge with our children through the active after school care coaching program.

Matthew demonstrates his passion and enthusiasm for his work and the response from all children
is positive. Matthew has always had a great rapport with all the children and also educators.
Matthew always communicates in such a caring and polite manner. He delivers a structured physical program which is implemented with children experiencing a wide range of developmental learning outcomes such as children connecting and contributing to their world, strong sense of wellbeing and identity, confident and involved learners, and effective communicators.

The children aged from 4 years to 13 years learn and experience so much and are always having fun through the music, singing, dancing and non -contact martial arts. The children don’t need to be asked if they would like to participate in Matthews’s classes as they are always eager to join in.

Matthew has also been involved with one of our yearly family shows (cultural dancing around the world). Matthew and the children in his group performed in front of the children’s parents, friends and wider community. This was such a wonderful experience for both the children and their families.

We are very grateful for everything Matthew has contributed to here at the Marian Catholic School after school care and would recommend every child experience and learn through Capoeira with Matthew.
